Like a younger artist, I examined Cezanne’s chunky renderings of apples and oranges. For Article-Impressionist painters like Cezanne, observation from lifetime was only the start of a mostly imaginative method. They valued vivid colour and lively brushstrokes more than the hyperrealism with th
